Building the Future, Together

Building the Future, Together
Hannah Lawrence

Brad Zacuto writes about the bold new chapter that WNS is entering with the purchase of our future campus at 5340 Alla Road, opening in 2026. Designed to support a dynamic, future-focused education, this new space will empower students from preschool through 8th grade to grow as confident, creative changemakers in a vibrant, purpose-built learning environment.

Building the Future, Together
A Message from Brad Zacuto, Head of School

Since our founding in 1980, Westside Neighborhood School (WNS) has always looked to the future—preparing students not just for the world as it is, but for the world as it will become. That vision is more alive today than ever before. This year marks a defining moment in our school’s story: the beginning of a bold new chapter that secures the future of WNS for generations to come.

In early 2024, we proudly finalized the purchase of our own building—a remarkable, state-of-the-art 132,000 square-foot facility sitting on five acres of land in Playa Vista. This “forever home,” located at 5340 Alla Road and set to open in fall 2026, is far more than a building. It is a physical manifestation of everything WNS stands for: innovation, inclusion, academic excellence, and a deep belief in the boundless potential of every child.

Our team of expert educators and visionary leaders have spent years designing a campus that supports how children learn best—intentionally crafted to elevate every aspect of the student experience. Drawing on research in child development and environmental psychology, our new campus will feature spacious classrooms, natural light, green spaces, and flexible learning environments that promote both calm and creativity. Acoustic design, access to nature, and dedicated areas for project-based learning all work in harmony to support a rigorous, joyful, future-focused education.

But even more exciting than the building itself is what it will empower us to do. With room to grow and dream, our curriculum will continue to expand, offering students space to explore entrepreneurial studies, digital and visual arts, theater, music, hands-on science, core academics, and, importantly, unstructured time for imaginative play. We are designing a space where curiosity is encouraged, big questions are welcomed, and children are seen as capable, powerful learners from the very start.

At WNS, we talk often about raising changemakers. A changemaker is someone who takes creative action to solve problems and drive positive change in their communities—and the world. From preschool through 8th grade, our students are taught to be thinkers and doers, to take risks, and to see challenges as opportunities. Whether it’s a collaborative project in elementary school or the 8th grade capstone experience—S.W.I.M. (Solutionary Work in Motion)—our students are empowered to make a real impact, even before they leave our doors.

When a WNS student graduates, they leave with confidence, compassion, and the mindset to lead. And now, with our new campus on the horizon, they’ll also leave knowing they were part of something historic—a community that dreamed big and built a future together.

I hope, as you read this, you get a glimpse of what makes WNS such a special place. We are inspired every day by our students, and we’re committed to sending each one into the world not just prepared, but poised to make it better.

With excitement for all that lies ahead,
Brad Zacuto
Head of School
