The World is a Classroom

At WNS, learning extends far beyond the classroom walls. Students in grades K–8 participate in a wide variety of field trips and, at middle school, overnight retreats that bring classroom concepts to life, offering meaningful, real-world connections to their studies. Whether exploring cultural institutions, engaging with nature, or participating in community-based experiences, these trips enrich academic learning, foster curiosity, and deepen students’ understanding of the world around them. Throughout the year, guest speakers and parent presenters are also invited into classrooms to provide additional insight and hands-on learning opportunities.

In middle school, students take part in two to three retreats annually—one as a full division and another by grade level. These immersive experiences are planned in partnership with professional outdoor education organizations and are guided by WNS faculty. The retreats emphasize community-building, personal growth, and experiential learning in dynamic, real-world environments.

In the Early Childhood Center (ECC), field studies begin right on campus, where students explore the natural environment and interact with special visitors and parent presenters. As part of their transition experience, DK students enjoy a series of walking "field trips" to the K–8 campus in the spring, building excitement and familiarity for the year ahead.

The Global Studies Program

WNS embraces a global perspective in education, and our distinctive Global Studies program for middle school students exemplifies this commitment. Each year, students in grades 6-8 have the opportunity to sign up to the Global Studies trip—partnering with EF Tours, a world leader in educational travel. Since our inaugural 2015 trip to Costa Rica, students have also explored Peru, Panama, Spain & Portugal, and most recently, Cuba, deepening their cultural understanding and contributing meaningfully to local communities.

We were also excited to launch our inaugural arts-inspired trip to New York City in Spring 2025, where students had the chance to see multiple Broadway shows and discover the city's most iconic performing arts venues.

These programs strengthen bonds among peers, foster global awareness along with developing cultivate empathy, critical thinking, and a lifelong passion for cross‐cultural engagement.
