Benefits of a Preschool through 8th Grade School

People are often curious about the difference between an elementary school and a Preschool-8 school. National studies show the advantages of PS-8 and K-8 schools for students at all grade levels.

The continuity of teachers, classmates, programs, and expectations appears to enhance academic, social, and emotional development for students leading to greater academic achievement and improved self-esteem and confidence.

While visiting WNS, you’ll notice the confidence, fearlessness, and kindness of our students. We believe the Preschool-8 environment plays a vital role in developing these characteristics.

Childhood is Preserved
In our Preschool–8th grade model, younger students look up to familiar older role models, while middle schoolers grow into confident leaders. Free from the social pressures of high school and social media (WNS has a no social media policy for our students), all students are supported with age-appropriate experiences that preserve childhood, build self-assurance, and foster a strong sense of belonging—laying the foundation for success in high school and beyond.

Students are Known and Feel Seen
At a PS–8th grade school like WNS, students are deeply known by their teachers—academically, socially, and emotionally. This continuity builds trust and confidence, empowering students to take risks and explore their passions. By middle school, we’ve watched them grow for years, allowing us to guide families with insight and care through the high school process, ensuring the best fit for each child’s strengths and goals.

Leadership Lives Here
As the oldest students on campus, our middle schoolers embrace meaningful leadership roles—from Student Council and Family Groups to starring in performances and leading athletic teams. These experiences build confidence, character, and readiness for high school and beyond.
Family Groups & Buddies
At WNS, our Family Groups and Buddy Program foster lasting relationships across grade levels. Middle school leaders guide mixed-age groups, building community and connection. Buddy pairs create meaningful bonds, offering younger students role models and giving older students the chance to practice empathy and leadership.

A Strong Foundation for High School
Research shows that a consistent, supportive environment through the elementary and middle school years leads to stronger academic and social outcomes. By ninth grade, WNS students are ready—eager for new challenges, confident in who they are, and well-prepared to thrive in high school.
A Personalized High School Placement Process
At WNS, students have an active voice in shaping their high school journey. Through a thoughtful, individualized process led by our Head and Assistant Head of School, eighth graders engage in meaningful reflection and personalized guidance. The result? Confident, well-rounded students who are academically prepared and sought after by top college-preparatory high schools across Los Angeles. Their experience sets the stage for future decision-making in both life and college.
